SMU’s Human Resources Department invites applications for an internship position in Remuneration and Benefits. This role offers experiential learning in the HR environment, focusing on compensation, benefits administration, and related HR functions.

 

Minimum Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree (NQF 7) in Accounting, Human Resource Management, Finance, Economics or equivalent (must attach academic transcript)

  • Must be new to HR, remuneration, and benefits (no prior work experience or internships in this specific field)

  • Basic understanding of remuneration structures and employee benefits

  • Strong numerical and analytical abilities

  • Computer literacy (MS Office Suite)

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Must be a South African citizen

Description :

Key Responsibilities

  • Support implementation and maintenance of salary structures and pay scales

  • Assist with job profiling, evaluation, and grading processes

  • Participate in salary benchmarking and compile market analyses

  • Maintain up-to-date records for benefit providers (e.g. medical aid, retirement funds)

  • Process monthly remuneration inputs such as salary adjustments and allowances

  • Prepare remuneration and benefits reports for management decision-making

  • Provide first-level support to employees on benefits queries (pensions, medical aid, etc.)

  • Ensure compliance with tax laws, BCEA, and internal policies

  • Contribute to improving SMU’s institutional culture

  • Perform any other tasks as delegated by the line manager
