About the Opportunity

The Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA), a Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) under the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) and the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE), is offering a 24-month internship in its Strategic Planning Unit.

This opportunity is open to unemployed South African citizens who have not previously participated in any internship and are seeking hands-on experience in strategic planning, policy coordination, and public sector performance reporting.

Minimum Requirements

A Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7) in:
- Human Resources Management / Development
- Public Administration / Governance / Management
An Honours or Postgraduate Qualification (NQF Level 8) in the above fields will be an added advantage

Key Responsibilities

Interns will gain experience in:

Assisting with the preparation of the Strategic Plan and Annual Performance Plan (APP)
Supporting the review process for Funding Policies and Discretionary Grant programmes
Assisting in the full discretionary grant administration process (advertising, applications, assessment, awarding, disbursement)
Integrating and managing compliance calendars for Parliament, DHET, National Treasury, and internal governance structures
Supporting the coordination and submission of statistical, quarterly, and annual performance reports
Preparing documentation for internal and external audits related to the MQA’s ISO Quality Management System
Providing general administrative and planning support to the unit

Good understanding of education and skills development legislation
Attention to detail and ability to manage deadlines
Customer service orientation and a proactive mindset
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to work independently and under pressure
