About the Opportunity
The Department of Tourism, in collaboration with SANParks, invites unemployed youth to apply for the Tourism Monitors Programme, a 7-month opportunity that combines theoretical training and practical experience in South Africa’s tourism and environmental sector.
Successful candidates will be appointed under the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) and deployed to Knysna National Park or nearby tourism sites. This programme aims to build skills, create work experience, and promote employability among youth.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must:

Be a South African citizen with a certified copy of their ID

Be unemployed, aged 18–35 years

Have Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification

Be fluent in English (written and spoken)
-
Reside within 40–100 km of the placement site (proof of residence required — no affidavits accepted)

Have own reliable transport to and from the work site
-
Be willing to work flexible hours (weekends, holidays, etc.)
-
Have a passion for tourism and environmental sustainability
Tertiary qualifications in Tourism or Environmental Studies are an added advantage.
Fitness & Selection Process
Shortlisted candidates may be required to:

Complete a fitness test (e.g., 2.4 km run, 25 pushups, 25 sit-ups)

Attend an interview near their place of residence

Undergo a medical examination and criminal record check prior to final acceptance
Only one learner per household will be accepted.
