About the Opportunity

The Department of Tourism, in partnership with SANParks, is offering a 7-month fixed-term opportunity for unemployed youth through the Tourism Monitors Programme. This role provides both theoretical training and practical experience, and forms part of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP).

Successful candidates will be deployed to tourism attractions near their residence and will enter into a fixed-term contract with SANParks.

 

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be a South African citizen (with a certified copy of their ID)

  • Be unemployed and aged 18–35 years

  • Have Matric / Grade 12 or an equivalent qualification

  • Be fluent in English

  • Reside within 40 km – 100 km of the site (with valid proof of residence — no affidavits accepted)

  • Have a genuine interest in the tourism sector

  • Be flexible to work weekends, holidays, and irregular hours

  • Have reliable transport to and from the work site

A tertiary qualification in tourism or an environmental-related field is an advantage.

Assessment Process

Shortlisted candidates may be required to:

  • Complete a fitness test (e.g., 2.4 km run, 25 push-ups, 25 sit-ups within a time limit)

  • Attend interviews near their local area

  • Undergo medical checks and criminal record screening

Only one candidate per household will be accepted.
