About the Opportunity
AFGRI, a leading agricultural services company, invites matriculants to apply for its 3-year Apprenticeship Programme in Tractor Mechanic or Earthmoving Mechanic trades. This structured programme includes in-service training, technical college support, and product training from renowned suppliers such as John Deere.
Note: This intake is only open to matriculants. Additional opportunities for other applicants will open in August/September 2025.
Minimum Requirements
To qualify, you must have:

A valid driver’s license
-
Good communication and admin skills
-
Computer literacy
-
Either of the following academic paths:
Option 1 – N2 Certificate (Passed in):

Mathematics
-
Engineering Science
-
Diesel Trade Theory
-
One of the following:
-
Industrial Electronics
-
Engineering/Technical Drawing
-
Motor Trade Theory
-
Option 2 – Matric Certificate (with the following subjects passed):
-
Mathematics (not Mathematical Literacy)
-
Technical Mathematics
-
Physical Science or Technical Science
-
Engineering Graphics and Design
Applicants without the required N2 subjects may still be accepted and supported through sponsored N2 training as part of the programme.
Programme Structure
-
Duration: 3 years (cannot exceed 4 years)
-
Initial 6-month probation period
-
Practical training through a Training Institute (if required)
-
Distance learning for N-subjects (weekends and workplace-based)
-
Product training from suppliers (John Deere, AFGRI internal training, etc.)
-
No cost for training modules if passed; failed modules must be redone at your own cost and time
-
A work-back agreement applies after qualification
Apprentices who withdraw early or fail to complete the programme may be liable for repayment based on time and phase of withdrawal.

Repair and maintenance of equipment

Stock control and basic inventory tasks

Providing customer service

Assisting with general workshop duties

Willing to participate in interviews and assessments
You’ll need around 60 minutes to complete the application and 30 minutes for assessment questions.
